January 2008
One chilly night in late January, Lauren was out at a local Milwaukee bar named McGillicuddy's when a young Notre Dame-loving Colin came up to her and prompted a conversation. Colin and Lauren spoke for maybe 5 minutes or so when she and her friends decided to move on to another bar. Colin did not go with them to the next bar and didn't ask for Lauren's number that night.
The next night Lauren and her friends were getting in line for a shuttle to a Marquette basketball game when they realized that Colin and his friends were in line right in front of them! They chitchatted in the cold while waiting to hop on the bus, but when Colin got on the doors shut right after him. The bus was full! Colin still didn't ask for her number and Lauren and her friends had to wait for the next bus to come. Lauren tried looking for him at the game, but in a sea of Gold and Blue it was hopeless.
A few weeks after that the duo finally saw each other at the library (very romantic location). They began to bump into each other at the library more and more and finally Colin asked for Lauren's number. They began officially dating that spring.

April Fools Day 2012 (Lauren's Version)
Yep, that's the day Colin proposed. There was some serious convincing of our friends and family that it we were really engaged and not joking. So how did it happen? Here's some background first:
In August 2008 we had been dating for a few months and Colin was about to head back to Milwaukee for his last year of law school. Unbeknownst to Colin, I was anxiously awaiting for him to drop the big "L word" before he left. One Sunday morning we were making breakfast and I thought for sure he'd say it...but he didn't. A few days later I was bursting, and while I'm sure this move is a serious "no no" by most relationship experts - I went ahead and asked him why he didn't tell me he loved me yet. I said "why didn't you say it when we were making breakfast?! It was the PERFECT moment!" (Girls, don't do this at home). He ended up saying it that night, and as you can imagine it wasn't exactly the romantic moment I was waiting for. I had stolen my
own "L word" thunder.
Fast forward to April Fools Day 2012, Colin recreated the "perfect moment" that never was. While making breakfast together he asked me if he could make up for the past by telling me that he loved me now? Then he knelt down behind me and said "would it make up for it if I asked you to marry me?" It was perfect.
